Comparing the 2022 Ford Ranger and Ford Maverick in Shreveport, LA
The lineup of Ford trucks grew in 2022 when the automaker introduced the Ford Maverick. This compact pickup joined the lineup of F-150, Super Duty, Ranger, and all-electric F-150 Lightning. The Ranger and Maverick are the two smallest models. While they’re both compact pickup trucks, they have some significant differences, and the team at Rountree Ford can show you both trucks at our showroom in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Powertrain and Capability
The 2022 Ford Ranger arrived on car lots in 2019. This compact truck comes with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It has standard rear-wheel drive and a ten-speed automatic transmission that delivers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21/26 MPG.
As a body-on-frame pickup truck, the Ranger can tow 7,500 when outfitted with the towing package.
Without that package, the Ranger can tow 3,500 pounds. Drivers can choose the Ranger with a four-seat SuperCab that pairs with a five-foot or six-foot bed or a five-seat SuperCrew with a five-foot bed. The SuperCrew with a five-foot bed measures 210.8 inches long.
The 2022 Ford Maverick is a compact pickup that seats five and measures 199.7 inches long. Its standard powertrain is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. This hybrid system gives the unibody truck 191 horsepower. With front-wheel drive, the hybrid powertrain gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 40/33 MPG.
Drivers can add a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine for 250 horsepower mated to an eight-speed transmission to their Maverick trucks. This powertrain delivers an EPA-estimated fuel rating of 23/30. Maverick models with all-wheel drive and the 4K Tow package can tow 4,000 pounds. All Mavericks seat five and have a standard cab and bed configuration that measures 199.7 inches long.
Trims and Safety Features
The Ranger and Maverick are available in many of the same trims: XL, XLT, and Lariat. The Maverick has three optional packages: First Edition, 4K Tow Package, and FX4 Off-Road Package. Ranger has five appearance packages and three performance packages.
The Maverick XL entry-level truck has more infotainment features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen than the Ranger XL models. Drivers have to move to the Ranger XLT to get comparable infotainment features.
Both trucks have a Rearview Camera, Forward Collision Warning, Pedestrian Detection, and Forward Automatic Emergency Braking as standard features in the XL trim.
