Knowing When to Have Your Oil Changed

With the F-150, your truck will be able to help you determine exactly when to have your oil changed. Since the lifespan of your vehicle’s oil varies based on a handful of factors, like how often you tow, there isn’t a set mileage when this service should be done.

That’s why the Ford F-150 is equipped with an intelligent Oil-Life Monitor. This will detect when the oil is no longer able to do its job effectively and alert you when it’s time to have it changed. When you see this message, you will want to make sure you schedule this service within the next 500 miles. You also want to make sure you don’t drive over 10,000 miles in between oil changes.

Other Services to Get When Changing the Oil

When you schedule to have the oil changed, there are other components that our technicians can check to see if anything else needs to be replaced.

The systems and parts that you should have inspected when getting your oil changed include the:

  • Braking system
  • Exhaust system
  • Transmission fluid level
  • Engine cooling system

You will also want to have the tires rotated, which prevents them from wearing unevenly so that they can last longer.

Other Maintenance You’ll Need Performed

Over time, there will be other parts that will need to be replaced to keep your truck safely performing the way it’s designed to. Every three years, the brake fluid should be changed.

Once you have driven for another 20,000 miles, the cabin air filter will need to be replaced. Every 30,000 miles, the engine air filter will need to be swapped out for a new one, as well as the engine-mounted and frame-mounted fuel filters.

Later in your truck’s life, the spark plugs will have to be changed. This should be done every 100,000 miles. Then when the odometer hits 150,000 miles, multiple fluids will need to be changed, including the rear and front axle fluids, transmission fluid, and transfer case fluid.
